About

“The Literary Sojourn is a rare event. Rare in its warmth, rare in its beauty, rare in the love of books that one feels everywhere in this splendid place. It’s a first rate experience for both reader and writer.”

Ethan Canin

Literary Sojourn is a nonprofit author and reader festival presented by the Bud Werner Memorial Library in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Founded in 1993 with a mission to bring noteworthy authors to our mountain community and promote and inspire the reading of exceptional literature, Literary Sojourn is the oldest and most anticipated literary festival in the Rocky Mountains. The single-day event draws an audience from all over the country and sells out quickly each year.

The program features presentations by internationally acclaimed authors who individually talk about their inspiration for the stories and characters in their published works.

Book sales are featured on-site throughout the entire event. Wine and a casual book signing with all of the authors conclude the festival. Authors and festival attendees who take advantage of a long weekend in Steamboat Springs have ample time to explore the changing aspens, historic downtown, local hot springs and more.

Literary Sojourn’s historic author lineup has included over 150 recipients and nominees of prestigious literary awards including the Pulitzer Prize, the Man Booker and the National Book Award. Past authors rave about their Literary Sojourn experience.
